A couple of weeks ago I asked 5 athletes what kinds of companies they wanted to see in our newsletter.

After that post, we received more interesting requests (including CPG) so we’re taking a break from the action to show Part 2. Really fascinating to see across the board.

Direct quotes from professional athletes…

“I’m looking to explore the possibilities that AI has to offer. Creating that bridge between Artificial Intelligence and the median consumer could open doors to a plethora of options to enhance the quality of consumer products and the overall experience when using your disposable income.”

I’d be interested in seeing more opportunities in the food industry.

“I’d be interested to exploring new ways to introduce AI into the major sports medicine fields; recovery equipment, mental and emotional support outlets etc. That could generate opportunities for our athletes to obtain different types of recovery methods while allowing for multi-faceted emersion into it’s benefits.”

We want to invest in sports properties. Team ownership is fine but NWSL and WNBA are most interesting leagues and both are overvalued now in my opinion I think new leagues is still interesting aka TGL, Unrivaled, Duel Track, etc sports tech and performance will always be a thing, anything that spits out data and increases performance will be interesting. Sports media for me, there’s only so much space for that. Everyone is competing for the same consumers attention. Fan engagement opportunities are interesting. Anything to enhance the experience for fans that go to stadiums

I’d also LOVE to see something around reshaping the way athletes are paid. CEOs get paid in stock and have much more flexibility over their financial futures because of it, whereas athletes lose money the second their paycheck comes in. This probably a little niche, but might be part of a bigger fintech play.

I’d like to see any companies looking to disrupt the Youth Sports Landscape. Whether you’re talking about tournaments, leagues, or general recreational play, youth sports are fragmented, costly for parents, logistical nightmares, presenting a great opportunity for a vertical play in a specific sport.
